Padre Island, Corpus Christi, Texas

Spent the end of March, first part of April down at the Gulf of Mexico at Padre Island, Texas.  We had never been down there and were joined by my brother and his wife.  Our timeshare was right on the water, across the bridge to the island.  We had a mix of weather with the week starting with beautiful blue skies and warm weather, and ending with still decent temps but lots more clouds.

What struck me the most were the amount of pelicans.  I love pelicans and we could watch them from our timeshare.  It was fascinating to watch them fly and dive for food.  We also saw a flock (?) of them fly overhead from the beach at Padre Island National Seashore.

I also had never seen white pelicans before.

On the way home we stopped at the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico.  I didn't get the best of pictures because of the low light and the flash made things white but is was a fascinating place.  Worth a stop and the hike down into them.  You can take the elevator and we cheated, walked down and took the elevator back up.  Really cool place, though.
