Western Slopes, CO

At the end of May we took 4 weeks to hit some rather local spots.  The first week was spent on the western slopes of the Rockies in Colorado.  We didn't really have any specific agenda of things to do but just went with the mood and the weather.

We were staying outside Grand Junction, further up in the mountains at Powderhorn Ski Resort.  We went down into Grand Junction one sunny day and walked the downtown historic section.  It is a really pretty setting and goes for several blocks.  The area is full of art sculptures of varying kinds, from modern to whimsical.  It was very interesting and a really nice way to spend a couple hours.

The Colorado River and all it's tributaries are running very high.  We had a good snow winter and some rain this spring.  The temps this spring have been very warm so the combination of faster snow melt than hoped and rain have made the rivers close to flood stage.
